Eagle Court of Honor for Jeremy Morris – Saturday, December 14th @ Noon

You are all invited to an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for our own Jeremy Morris on Saturday, December 14th at noon at the Church of the Advent. We will hold a ceremony with lunch reception to follow. Scouts should attend in Class A uniform.

We will need two scouts to volunteer to serve as the color guard. Please let Scoutmaster Scott know if you are able to help perform this important duty in the ceremony.

Troop 5 Scoutmaster Announcements – Dec 3, 2024

Zomboree is this weekend! Lots of fun with lots of scouts from other troops in our council. Full program guide is at https://pipsicobsa.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Zomboree_LG-24.pdf. Pack warmly and meet at the church at 5:30pm on Friday in your Class A uniform. Invoices for scout program fees ($29 each) will be sent out this week; please keep an eye out for yours and pay in a timely fashion.

Eric Casey is asking all parents to attend the December 17th troop committee meeting, where we will renew all memberships for 2025. Please note the change of date from previous announcements and mark your calendar for this important date. Also, all adults who have not yet completed their annual Youth Protection Training (YPT), please do so ASAP and send your certificate of completion to Committee Chair Eric Casey.

For scouts attending winter camp at Pipsico, merit badge selections are due to Kristina Malleck tonight. The 2025 Winter Camp Merit Badge Guidebook is now available at https://pipsicobsa.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/WinterCampMBG-25.pdf.

Stay tuned for an announcement of Jeremy Morris’s Eagle Ceremony, coming very soon. We will need some scouts to volunteer as color guards and possibly as emcee and other speaking roles.

No Troop Meeting this week – get your YPT done!

A reminder that we will not have a troop meeting this week. All adult leaders should complete their YPT and send your certificate of completion to Committee Chair Eric Casey.

For scouts attending the upcoming Zomboree, you may want to check out the event program guide for more details and to start planning ahead: https://pipsicobsa.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Zomboree_LG-24.pdf. We plan to cook meals by patrols and will be planning those meals at our December 3rd meeting. For scouts who are not yet registered but would like to attend, you can complete your registration no later than Sunday, December 1st at https://scoutingevent.com/596-Zomboree24.

Troop 5 Scoutmaster Announcements – Nov 12, 2024

We will hold a court of honor next Tuesday around 7:00pm in the sanctuary of the church, following an abbreviated troop meeting and committee meeting. All family and friends are welcome to attend as we honor the advancement and accomplishments of our scouts.

A reminder that Eric Casey is asking all adult volunteers to complete their annual Youth Protection Training (YPT) no later than November 26th. There is no troop meeting that night so you have time to get it done.

Pipsico Merit Badge Guide Book for Winter Camp

The 2025 Winter Camp Merit Badge Guidebook is now available.

  • The grey blocks are when the sessions are available – white blocks are not available (i.e. Animation is available during sessions 1, 2 or 5.
  • Pay attention to the grey blocks that span more than 1 session – some badges require multiple sessions (i.e. American Heritage is offered two times: Sessions 1 & 2 OR Sessions 3 & 4).
  • Prerequisites are listed on page 6 – these need to be completed prior to camp & proof must be shown to the merit badge counselor at camp

Please select 2-3 options for each session:

  • Session 1 – list 2-3 badges
  • Session 2 – list 2-3 badges
  • Session 3 – list 2-3 badges
  • Session 4 – list 2-3 badges
  • Session 5 – list 2-3 badges

Kristina needs your preferred selections no later than Tuesday, December 3rd, so she can enroll everyone on opening day (Saturday, December 7th).

Thank you to all parents who attended the information meeting tonight about rechartering. Eric Casey has asked that all adult volunteers complete their annual Youth Protection Training (YPT) no later than November 26th. There is no troop meeting that night so you have time to get it done. Parents can read up on the Tidewater Council membership renewal process by looking through this guide (but don’t follow the process just yet). Eric is asking for all parents to attend the December 10th troop meeting, where we will renew all of our memberships for 2025. Please mark your calendar for that important date.

A reminder for scouts camping this weekend that complete class A uniforms will be required for our visits to the National Parks on Saturday and Sunday. Anyone 16 years and older will need to either bring $15 or a National Parks pass for entry to the parks. (This includes adult leaders.) Scouts 15 years and younger receive free entry. Scouts should also plan to bring fishing gear on this camping trip. We anticipate being able to earn 3-4 awards/badges on this outing. Weather looks good and it should be fun.

Be Prepared for Chickahominy Camping

All scouts who are camping this coming weekend, Nov 8-10 at Chickahominy, need to bring $25 to this Tuesday’s troop meeting for patrol groceries.

Troop 5 Scoutmaster Announcements – Oct 29, 2024

Committee chair Eric Casey is asking all parents to please attend the meeting on November 5th to learn how to recharter your scout for the coming year. There has been an overhaul to the rechartering process and we want all of you to be ready and enabled to take the necessary actions to keep your scouts continuing on their journey.

Our troop is camping on November 8-10th at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, where we plan to explore the history of the area and earn an Historic Trail Award. Please RSVP here as soon as possible: https://forms.gle/MP3Voy5GbXXaxVBw9. Please contact us with any questions.

We have a popcorn show & sale at the church this Saturday and still have one slot from 11am – 1pm and two slots from 1pm – 2pm that need to be filled. Popcorn orders and money due tonight

A final reminder that all popcorn orders and money are due at tonight’s meeting. Stock is not guaranteed after today. We will attempt to report all fundraising totals to date. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
