Troop 5 Scoutmaster Announcements – Sep 10, 2024
This Tuesday we completed module 1 of Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST). We will complete modules 2 and 3 on our September camping trip. All youth leaders that complete the training will receive a Trained patch for their position.
For scouts who are First Class and above and have completed ILST, the council is offering National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) over two consecutive weekends in November. This is a fairly significant time commitment because it is a significant training course and achievement. The troop will cover the registration cost for any eligible scout who attends. The only other registration requirement is a current medical form, parts A, B, and C. Full registration information is available at https://scoutingevent.com/596-24NYLT. I participated in the previous version of this course (then known as Junior Leadership Training, or JLT) and found it to be very helpful in teaching me how to lead scouts specifically, and other people generally. If your scout is able to do it, I would definitely recommend it. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Scouts should bring $20 cash next Tuesday to contribute towards patrol groceries for our September campout. Please RSVP here now if you have not already done so: https://forms.gle/b21RbDFjX3gLez9c8
We also need RSVPS for the December Zomboree at Pipsico (first come, first serve – https://forms.gle/6ziK9FfT3BXzPog86) and January Winter Camp at Pipsico (registration and payment due by this coming Tuesday 9/17 – https://forms.gle/QXRW3f9wU5kiga277).
Finally, please help spread the word about our open house on October 1st! This meeting is especially intended for any current 5th graders (AOL cub scouts). So far, we have one AOL den attending, two others interested, and couple others invited. We’ve got lots of room in the social hall so let’s make use of it. The PLC is planning a fun night for everyone that evening.
Thanks everyone,
Scott Guirlinger
